The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Oyo state says deadline for the conduct of political parties primary election for nomination of candidates has lapsed.
A statement by INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC in Oyo state, Dr Mutiu Agboke notes that date was in line with the provisions of the 2022 Electoral Act.
Dr Agboke urged political parties to begin submission of the list of their candidates into various elective positions at national level, beginning from today (Friday) till next Friday.
The REC explained that state electron list will be provided from 1st to 15th of next month as contained in the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2023 general elections.
Dr Agboke directed political parties to upload details of their candidates for each constituency to the. INEC Candidates Nomination Portal, ICNP before its automatic closure 6’0 clock in the evening of next Friday for national elections and 15th of next month for state elections.
The INEC REC stressed that only names of candidates elected from democratic primaries as stipulated in section 84 of the electoral act 2022 should be submitted to the commission, adding that names of running mates for presidential and governorship candidates should be included.
