An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti has sentenced a 30-year-old Shola Oguntuase to life imprisonment for raping a 14-year-old girl.

Oguntuase was arraigned before Justice Adekunle Adeleye on one count charge of rape.

In her statement, the victim said, I am a Junior Secondary School (JSS) 3 Student, I was sleeping in our room on that evening, I spread a cover cloth on my body, suddenly, I saw oga Shola (brother Shola) removing the cover cloth on my body and laying on me when I was struggling to stand up and shout, he covered my mouth and nose with the cloth and I could not breathe well, I became weak when he started hitting me with blows on the head, he removed my pant and have sexual intercourse with me, thereafter, he used a white handkerchief to rub my virginal and left.

The offense contravenes Section 31 (2) of the Child’s Right Law, Cap. R7, Laws of Ekiti State.

To prove his case, the prosecutor, Marcus Olowoyo Esq. called four witnesses, and she tendered the defendant’s statements, victim’s statement, and medical report as exhibits.

The convict spoke in his own defense through his counsel Rotimi Adabembe and called no witnesses.

Delivering his judgment, justice Adekunle Adeleye said, from the entire circumstances, I have no doubt that the prosecution established beyond reasonable doubt that the defendant raped the prosecutrix (the victim).

The defendant is hereby sentenced to life imprisonment, the judge ruled.
