Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mr Adebowale Williams has arrested a suspected kidnapper who threatened to kidnap some students at a private University in Oyo town.

The suspect was paraded at the Police headquarters, Eleyele Ibadan alongside other suspected criminals, who were arrested for various offences ranging from kidnapping, robbery, car snatching and other related criminal offences. 

According to the Commissioner,  a notorious kidnapping syndicate, Adekunle Olarinde, sent a ‘’Hand-Written” note to the management of the Institution threatening to abduct three of its students should the management fail to pay up Ten Million Naira within a stipulated period.

He noted that the threat as expected, disrupted academic activities within the University, stirring up panic and uncertainty among the institution’s community.

The Police Commissioner who spoke through the Police Public Relations Officer,  Mr Olawale Osifeso noted that upon the information, discreet forensic based investigations were carried out which led to the arrest of one Azeez Mufutau whose phone numbers were inscribed on the Hand-written notes sent to the institution’s management.

Mr Williams noted further that the syndicate decided to extend a similar hand-written notification to a branch office of a New Generation Bank within Owode Area, Oyo with the intentions of invading it later in the week.

“in making the State undesirable and inhabitable for criminally minded and other  unscrupulous elements with the adoption of distinctive and multifaceted crime tackling approach premised on improved communal partnerships and technology aided inquiries.”

The suspect,  Adekunle Olarinde who denied the allegation levelled against said he sent the letter to implicate his friend which he put his number in the letter as a decoy for the purpose of concealing his direct involvement.

Reacting,  the vice-chancellor of the university who pleaded anonymity said the letter created panic and fear to them which made him to report to the police and dss.

The VC therefore called on all Nigerian institutions authorities to beef up Security in their environment to always protect the lives of their students. 

Other suspected criminals who were Paraded alongside the suspected kidnapper confessed to the accusations levelled against them and pleaded for leniency. 

Their offence included kidnapping and robbery and their victims were six traders who they took to thick forest,dispossessed of huge sums of money eight cell phones and equally carted away the one hundred and eighty kegs of palm oil valued at Three

Million Six Hundred Thousand Naira .

Exhibits found with the suspects included: ONE DOUBLE BARREL LOCALLY MADE GUN, ONE LIVE CARTRIDGE, ONE MAZDA BUS, TOYOTA COROLLA CAR WITH REG NO SMK 330 FD.
