Ogun State Police Command has arrested six suspected members of Eiye cult group while attempting to kill a traditional ruler in his palace.

According to a release by the Command’s spokesperson, Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi, the arrested suspects include Michael Ayodele, Monday Samuel, Ademola Matthew, Hammed Jelili, Ogundele Ojeh and Sunkanmi Fadina.

He stated that the suspects were arrested at the palace of Oba of Gbokoto land after a complaint that some cultists were about to kill him.

Mr. Abimbola said policemen engaged the suspects in a shootout before they were subdued.

The police release hinted that one of the suspects had confessed that the son of the traditional rulers was invited to eliminate his father due to an unresolved issue with his mother. 

It said exhibits retrieved from the suspects included one locally made double barrel pistol, two live cartridges and one expended cartridge.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Lanre Bankole has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to State Criminal Investigation Departments for discreet investigation.
