Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has directed the relevant security agencies to ensure that sponsors and perpetrators of the mayhem over chieftaincy issues in Agosasa town, Ipokia Local Government Area of the state are punished.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Kunle Somorin, Governor Abiodun condemned the violence and declared that anyone found culpable in the skirmish should be arrested and prosecuted according to the extant laws of the state.

The Governor, who expressed his dissatisfaction over the crisis which he described as unfortunate, said there were legitimate channels for addressing issues of chieftaincy without recourse to violence. 

Prince Dapo Abiodun said he had directed the police to restore peace in the town and fish out those behind the violence with the view to prosecuting them accordingly.

He also gave the assurance that adequate security would be provided in the town, urging the residents to remain calm and go about their normal businesses without fear.

Violence was unleashed on the town during the weekend following disagreements over the choice of a new king, leading to the death of at least one person, while property worth millions of naira were reported to have been destroyed.
