Nigeria Police Force, NPF, has allayed the fear of motorists and road users who ply Lagos-Ibadan Expressway over the lingering cases of kidnapping.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG in Charge of Southwest, Mr Jonhson Kokumo made the remarks when he embarked on a strategic assessment tour of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

DIG Kokumo, was in the convoy of Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mr Adebowale Williams, said the assessment tour became imperative to ensure that the axis was safe for motorists as well as people living in nearby communities.

The DIG said, though, security operatives had been deployed to the expressway, more still needed to be done including equipping and arming the officers for optimal performance.

He said some mechanisms like manpower, patrol vehicles and sophisticated firearms would also be given to the officers to enhance their performance.

Mr Kokumo, therefore, called on the public not to entertain any fear and go about their lawful businesses.

This is In furtherance of the resolve and commitment of the 21st Indigenous Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Baba Alkali psc(+), NPM, NEAPS, fdc, CFR to strategically end the incessant cases of abductions and to restore back confidence on road users and commuters especially as the country navigates towards the electioneering and ember period.”

While appealing to stakeholders to assist the police in curbing the disturbing security trend by providing credible and timely information capable of nipping crime in the bud, the DIG gave an assurance of operational and tactical interventions from the IGP ranging from remodelling the security architecture to ample deployments to forestall any untoward happenings forthwith.

Communities visited by the DIG were Alapako, Onigaari and Ogunmakin across the Ogun/Oyo State boundaries.
