The lingering leadership crisis in the Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists has been resolved.

This followed a reconciliatory meeting initiated by some Veteran Journalists including Alhaji Kola Animashaun, Pa Stephen Akinwale, Asiwaju Tunde Abiodun and Alhaji Bashir Omotoso, which was held at the Studio One, Broadcasting House, Dugbe, Ibadan.

Addressing the representatives of the two factions, Alhaji Animashaun appreciated the former Oyo NUJ Chairman, Mr Adewumi Faniran and the current Chairman of the State Council, Mr Demola Babalola for accepting to sheath swords and appealed to aggrieved members of the two parties to allow peace to prevail.

Reacting, the former Oyo NUJ Chairman, who is also Deputy Director, News and Current Affairs Department, FRCN, Ibadan Zonal Station, Mr Adewumi Faniran commended the negotiation team for facilitating the peace talk, stressing that he accepted the peaceful resolution for the progress of NUJ at the state and national level.

Mr Faniran, who also insisted that he was fighting a just course and had nothing against any individual, said that based on the resolution, he would accept to be seen and addressed as former chairman of the union in Oyo State.

Earlier, the NUJ Chairman, Mr Ademola Babalola said the former NUJ Chairman is a leader whom he respected so much.

Mr Babalola who appreciated the leadership role of Mr Faniran also commended the former leader of the union both at the state and national levels.

It would be recalled that members of NUJ, FRCN, Ibadan Chapel, had dragged the current executives of the State Council to court over the ineligibility of Mr Demola Babalola to contest in the 2019 election of the Council and since then, the Chapel had dissociated itself from the Council’s activities.

However, with the truce reached on Tuesday, the members who went to court had agreed to withdraw the case.
