As part of measures to boost access to quality healthcare in the country, the Federal Government has presented a healthcare platform tagged “NigComHealth”.

NigComHealth is a telehealth service that provides a platform for Nigerians to book appointments, receive medical advice or recommendation and consult with physicians and other healthcare practitioners from the comfort of their homes, offices schools and localities. Access to these services will not only reduce the burden of physical hospital visits but also enhance the overall quality of healthcare services for citizens.

The health platform was developed by NIGCOMSAT.

Presenting the platform in Abuja, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Pantami said the innovation is meant to bridge the healthcare deficit in Nigeria.

He said based on facts; Nigerians spent at least N1.6 billion on foreign health tourism yearly.

Professor Pantami said the country requires at least 370,000 doctors yearly to address the doctor-patient ratio inadequacy, while there are at least 40,000 public and private healthcare facilities but many of them are not affordable and accessible to Nigerians.

The Minister, therefore, said the NigComHealth was a novel idea that would address these challenges.

The Managing Director of the Nigerian Communication Satellite Company, NIGCOMSAT, MallamTukur Lawal said the agency was poised to meet its mandate to Nigerians through innovations and ideas.
