The Coalition of Delta State Civil Society Organizations has urged governments to take proactive steps to relocate residents in flood-prone areas ahead of the 2023 flood prediction by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NIMET.

The group made the call at a One-Day Sensitization Workshop for Ministries Departments and Agencies on Waste Recycling to commemorate the 2023 World Environment Day, in collaboration with Delta State Civil Society Organizations Forum.

The Executive Director of Noble Delta Women for Peace and Development Ambassador Caroline Oliseowe, noted the theme of the celebration: Beat Plastic Pollution, was aimed at highlighting the effects of plastic pollution on the environment and measures by stakeholders to address the problem.

Similarly, Comrade Mulade Sheriff of the Center for Peace and Environment Justice, made suggestions on addressing issues relating to plastic pollution and the 2023 flood prediction. 

Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary, Delta State Ministry of Environment, Dr. Minnie Oseji, stated that the ministry had engaged people in schools, churches, and other public places to create awareness of the dangers of environmental pollution and the need for residents to join the fight against plastic pollution and other negative environmental practices.
