Nigerians have been advised to reduce the use of plastic to the barest minimum as it poses environmental hazards to humanity, especially when not disposed of properly.

An environmental sustainability expert, Mr Emmanuel Ola-Olowoyo gave the advice while featuring on straight talk, a premier FM current affairs interview programme in commemoration of 2023 World Environment Day.

Mr Ola-Olowoyo who lamented that climate change and environmental issues are more destructive than the Covid-19 pandemic said the nation’s natural resources were being depleted as a result of indiscriminate dumping of refuse and use of plastics.

He said if the trend is not checked, it would affect the next generation from meeting certain needs.

The environmental sustainability expert said plastics and nylons that find their ways to the landfills do not decompose, therefore it affects the soil.

He also advocated the use of reusable bottles and carrier bags rather than using plastics and nylons, appealing to members of the public to have a change of attitude and adopt it as a behavioral lifestyle.
