2 killed, 6 Injured in Auckland Shooting

Two persons have been killed in a shooting in Auckland just a few hours before the kick-off of the first match at the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup in New Zealand.

According to reports six other persons including police personnel were injured at a construction site in Auckland’s business district.

It quoted the Prime Minister, Chris Hipkins as saying that New Zealand tagged the heinous act as a terrorist act.

Hipkins however noted that the tournament would go ahead.

Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown said the shooting was not in any way related to the Women’s World Cup.

The shooter, identified as Matu Tangi Reid, had torn through a construction site with a pump-action shotgun and started shooting.
