Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has vowed that the suspects who gruesomely murdered a Divisional Police Officer in the state, Bako Amgbashim, must be brought to book, dead or alive.

Governor Fubara stated this on Sunday shortly after hosting an emergency State Security Council meeting at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

The governor said his administration will not allow Rivers State to become a safe haven for criminals.

“We honestly feel very sad over this (incident). But as a government, we sympathise with the Nigerian Police Force, especially the family of Officer Bako,” he said.

“We will not rest until whoever is responsible for this act is brought to book. We have shown our commitment in this particular issue by placing a bounty on the criminal and also suspending the traditional ruler in that locality.

“We are doing everything on our part to make sure that we look at this matter and get to the end of it. We must get him dead or alive because we have to make a statement. Rivers State has never and will never be a home to criminality.”

The governor expressed confidence in the ability of security agencies in the state to get to the root of the crime and arrest all perpetrators involved.

Amgbashim, a Superintendent of Police, reputed for his bravery, was brutally murdered by suspected cultists on Friday night while leading a security team in an operation in Odiemudie community in the Ahoada East Local Government Area.
