Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has solicited the support of community stakeholders to collectively wage war against insecurity bedeviling the development of the country.

The NSCDC commandant in Oyo State, Dr Michael Adaralewa stated this during a public enlightenment on security issues organized by the Area A Command of the corps, Aleshinloye, Iyaganku Ibadan. 

Dr Adaralewa said the corps was statutorily empowered to carry numerous security functions such as protection of critical national assets and infrastructure, disasters and crises management, intelligence gathering and safe school initiative.

He said the corps would not be able to perform its roles effectively without the assistance of community stakeholders as they are closer to the grassroots. 

Dr Adaralewa said with technology advancement and the world fast becoming more complex, the narratives of crime and criminality become more dynamic on daily basis, hence securing the society must be enhanced collectively. 

He said the synergy of other security agencies and community stakeholders would definitely go a long way in stemming the tide of crimes and criminalities in the metropolis and it’s environs.

He noted that the collaboration would also promote community development, peaceful co-existence and economic growth of the people in the society. 

The NSCDC boss in Oyo state stated further that the area A Command of the corps covers major metropolitan areas which included Ibadan North, Ibadan Southwest, Ibadan Northwest Irepodun and Ibadan West, hence the need for maximum protection of lives and property of the residents.

“In the past months, area A command of the corps has recorded some achievements in the reduction of crime and criminality prevalent in the metropolis such as safeguarding government critical asset and infrastructure, intelligence gathering, general operations, crisis management, peace and conflict resolution, private guard companies, safe school initiatives, and prevention of clashes between farmers and herders.“ 

 In her address of welcome, the Area A commander of the corps, Mrs Victorian Alao said all the community stakeholders under the command have been supportive and always ready to give out useful information through community policing.

Speaking on behalf of the community leaders, the Baale of Ekotedo, Chief Taye Ayorinde appreciated the corps for its efforts in the area of conflict resolution and urged them to take night patrol as priority as most crimes were being perpetrated at night . 

Chief Ayorinde added that the NSCDC in Oyo State should continue to solicit the support of Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state for more assistance in the aspect of more operational vehicles and other logistics to improve on their operational efficiency. 

 The event was graced by representatives from all other security agencies, community leaders, artisans, market men and women association of farmers as well as other members of the nearby communities.
