Osun State House of Assembly has called on the State Commissioner of Police to curb the excesses of some bad eggs amongst the Nigerian Police Force, following an alleged seizure of a motorcycle belonging to a young man from Inisha town.
The Lawmakers made the Call following an issue under matters of Urgent Public Importance raised by Member Representing, Ola – Oluwa, Mr. Ibrahim Abiodun during Plenary Presided by The Speaker of the House, Prince Adewale Egbedun.
Mr. Ibrahim narrated the ordeal of the young man whom was prevented from Committing suicide in Osogbo early this month,following his encounter with some Policemen who seized his newly bought Motorcycle on his way from Lagos and later claimed the motorcycle could not be found.
He explained that Security agencies were meant to protect the Citizens from Internal and External aggression and not the other way round.
Also in separate remarks, Member representing Obokun Prince Adewunmi Adeyemi and Member representing Oriade, Barrister Kanmi Ajibola condemned the act of some Law enforcement agents whom were in the habit of forcefully extorting unsuspected members of the Public.
In his Response, The Speaker, Prince Adewale Egbedun directed the House Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, Public Petitions and legal Matters to investigate the issue and report to the House in due course.
Also, The Osun State Tertiary Institution Staff Retirement Bill 2023 , after the policy thrust scaled through its second passage has adopted by the Majority Leader, Mr. Adewunmi Kofoworola and seconded by member representing Ola – Oluwa, Mr Abiodun Ibrahim.
Meanwhile, Osun State Local Government Area Creation and Administration Law 2023 sponsored by Mr. Kofoworola Adewunmi and Osun State Employment Trust Fund Bill 2023 sponsored by the Speaker , Prince Adewale Egbedun, scaled through its first reading.
In another development, Osun State House of Assembly has written to the Head of Service to ask the General Manager of Osun Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System, OSEMSAS, Doctor Babatunde Samuel to step aside pending the conclusion of the investigation of allegations levelled against him.
A Statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, OSHA, Mr. Olamide Tiamiyu, this was contained in a letter signed by the Clerk of the House,Mr. Simeon Amusan on behalf of the Speaker, Prince Adewale Egbedun.
It would be recalled that the Osun State House of Assembly received a petition from the Coalition of Good Governance on the misappropriation of funds levelled against the General Manager.
The petition was thereafter forwarded to the Auditor-General of the State for audit investigation on the accounts and activities of the Agency.
The report of the audit investigation which was issued to the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly revealed that there were payments made without documentation from the project account of the agency which accrued to millions of naira.
Also, there are procurement irregularities, poor record-keeping of transactions as well as expenditures not accounted for at all, which contravenes the Finacial Regulations 32004, 05004, 09004 and 09002.
Upon receiving the report of the audit investigation, the Osun State House of Assembly has recommended to the Head of Service to ask Doctor Babatunde Olusegun Samuel, General Manager OSEMSAS to step aside pending the conclusion of the investigation.
Also, the Head of Service is requested to appoint a competent officer as General Manager to Serve in Acting Capacity to facilitate the smooth running of the Agency.
