Six persons have again been arrested by officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, in connection with energy theft in some parts of Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

The Commandant of the NSCDC in Osun State, Mr Agboola Sunday, who presented the suspects before newsmen at the command’s headquarters in Osogbo, described the act of energy theft and electricity bypass as economic sabotage.

Mr Agboola explained that such unpatriotic act was not only committed against the interest of the electricity distribution companies but also against other electricity consumers, who pay their bills regularly and against the government, who is denied of income.

The Commandant said the NSCDC in collaboration with IBEDC would intensify patrol across Osun State to ensure that perpetrators were brought you book to serve as deterrent to others.

“The command is dismayed that despite several arrest made to deter the public from engaging in such dangerous and fraudulent acts, some have bluntly refused to desist from the act, and at our end we would continue to go after these people “.

He also warned the people against tampering with other critical public infrastructure, noting that such is inimical to the Socio-economic growth of the society.

Mr Agboola noted that prosecution of that arrested would be some from time to time.

Also speaking, the Public Relations Officer of the Osun region of an electricity distribution company, Mrs Kike Owoeye said since April this year, about one hundred individuals had been arrested and are being prosecuted in connection with energy theft and electricity bypass in Osun State.

Mrs Owoeye appealed to the people to desist from the act, not just in the interest of the company, but in the interest of other law abiding citizens, who make regular payment for their energy consumption, and who may be deprived by such economic sabotage.
