Ogun State Police command has banned indiscriminate use of explosive fireworks in the state.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola indicates that the ban on fireworks, deafening sound of fireworks popularly called “banga” can threaten the state of peace of mind and trigger anxiety among residents.
The statement says Police will take steps on the complaints of the residents and the communities over their inability to differentiate between gunshots and fireworks.
It urges residents to respect the privacy of their neighbours and warns youths who may want to flout the directive that fireworks is criminalized and punitive sanctions will accompany deliberate violations in accordance with extant laws.
