The southwest zonal executives of the Nigeria Union Of Local Government Employees, NULGE, have reiterated their determination to continue to advocate the implementation of full autonomy for local government administrations.

The labour leaders made this known at a press conference held at the union’s zonal secretariat in Ibadan.

The Vice President General, NULGE, Southwest, Mr. Abimbola Babalola said the benefits of local government autonomy include, national development, massive empowerment of people, power decentralization, financial independence and economic development at the grassroots.

Mr. Babalola also solicited for support from traditional rulers, religious leaders and the media in advocating local government autonomy, which would foster development at the grassroots.

He said with the vision of President Bola Tinubu in restoring local government as a critical tier of government in the country, the union would remain resolute to support the cause.

NULGE in 774 Local Governments across the Federation, including those in Oyo State, had recently staged a peaceful rally to throw weight behind PBAT on implementation of LG Autonomy and to draw the attention of relevant stakeholders to the demand.

Also the federal government through the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, had dragged the 36 Governors to court over local government autonomy.
