Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to honouring the sacrifices of Nigerian Army officers and other security personnel who died while protecting the nation’s territorial integrity.
Governor Abiodun made this statement on Monday during the launch of the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem held at Okemosan, Abeokuta.
The governor emphasized that the emblem launch symbolizes respect and honour for the men and women of the armed forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice for Nigeria’s unity.
He noted that it also serves as an opportunity to raise funds for the welfare of surviving personnel and the families of fallen heroes.
Calling on the public and corporate organizations to contribute generously towards the support of affected military personnel, Governor Abiodun highlighted that the country’s unity in diversity is a result of the unwavering commitment of military personnel to national cohesion.
He urged all Nigerians to work collectively for national unity, transcending tribal and religious sentiments, and to support the government at all levels. The governor also reiterated his administration’s dedication to prioritizing the welfare of the families of fallen military personnel.
To this end, he directed the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokinbo Talabi, to integrate some of the widows of fallen heroes into the state’s public service.
Additionally, he instructed the Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, and the Ministry of Women Affairs to enroll these widows in the Nigerian for Women Project.
Governor Abiodun assured that the current administration would continue to strengthen its relationship with security agencies to enhance the state’s security framework.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Ogun State Chapter of the Nigerian Legion, Master Warrant Officer Orukotan Oluwamuyiwa, commended Governor Abiodun for his ongoing support of the widows of fallen heroes.
He also encouraged the governor to expand this support by providing more employment opportunities for them.
The event’s highlight was the decoration of Governor Abiodun with the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Emblem by the State Chairman of the Nigerian Legion.
