The estranged wife of Ooni of Ife, Queen Naomi Silekunola alongside the principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan, Mr Abdullahi Fasasi and ace Broadcaster, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat have been remanded at the Nigeria Correctional Centre, Agodi, Ibadan.
The Chief Magistrate, Magistrate Court, Iyaganku, Ibadan, Bisi Ogunkanmi remanded the three defendants on four counts bordering on conspiracy and murder.
According to the Chief Magistrate, Queen Naomi unlawfully accelerated the death of thirty-five children by inviting them for a funfair but failed to provide adequate security and medical facility which could have prevented the eventual stampede at the venue.
Chief Magistrate Ogunkanmi explained that by Queen Naomi’s actions, she committed an offence contrary to section 311 and punishable under section 319 of the criminal code cap 38 vol 11.
In an interview, Counsel to the third defendant, Mr Adebowale Olajide argued that the defendants were not properly arraigned.
However, the three defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The magistrate thereafter adjourned the case till the 13th of January, next year for mentioning.
Recall that thirty-five children lost their lives during a stampede at Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan, where a children’s funfair allegedly organised by Queen Naomi, was scheduled to hold.
