An Ogun State High Court sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State has sentenced three individuals to death for the murder of a couple, the Fatinoyes and their son, which occurred January 1, 2023, at Government Reservation Area, GRA, Ibara, Abeokuta.
Delivering a judgement, Justice Basirat Adebowale found the trio guilty of a nine-count charge, emphasizing that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt that the defendants, who included Lekan Adekanbi, Ahmed Odetola, and Waheed Adeniyi, were guilty of the charges.
The judge stated that the offences committed contravened section 21(b), and 16(1)(b) of the prohibition of forcible occupation of landed properties, Armed Robbery, Kidnapping, Cultism and other Anti-Violence and other related offences Law of Ogun 2016.
In the same vein the court also convicted the wife of Adekanbi to two years imprisonment, for perverting the course of justice by hiding her husband, and Adekanbi’s mother, Adenike Adekanbi, was sentenced to one year imprisonment for making a false statement to police officers.
Adekanbi, who was the driver to the Fatinoye conspired with Odetola, and Adeniyi to rob and murder Mr Kehinde Fatinoye and Mrs Bukola Fatinoye, and their son on January 1st, 2023 at their residence.
The trio armed with gun, hammer and cutlass robbed the Fatinoyes of the sum of 1.102 million naira and one Hyundai vehicle valued at 12 million naira, adding that they also robbed Bukola Fatinoye of her phones valued at 1 million naira.
