Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency, OGEPA, says it has commenced an investigation to ascertain the level of underground water pollution allegedly caused by the activities of a filling station located along Ayetoro roundabout road in Abeokuta.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency, OGEPA, Alhaji Farouk Akintunde, disclosed after the agency had received a petition from a church located beside the Station.
Alhaji Akintunde said the church had alleged that the activities of the Station had contaminated the only source of water supply of the church with Premium Motor Spirit, PMS.
He pointed out that the enforcement team of the agency moved into action and sealed up the facility to identify the level of chemical contamination in all water ground in the areas.
He noted that the sealing of the fuel station was to examine the extent of the contamination and to establish the present underground water status, towards ensuring the wellness and well-being of all residents of the area.
Alhaji Akintunde restated the determination of the present government in the state to the safety and over all well-being of residents of the State.
