By Jeffrey Ahonmisi

Justice Ladiran Akintola of the Oyo State High Court, Ring-Road, Ibadan has adjourned till the 10th of March 2025 the arraignment of the former wife of Ooni of Ife, Naomi Silekunola, a broadcaster, Oriyomi Hazmat, and Principal of Islamic High School, Basorun, Abdullahi Fasasi.

The defendants are facing trial for their alleged involvement in the December 18 stampede that led to the death of 35 minors in Ibadan

Counsel to one of the defendants, Mr Oriyomi Hazmat, Adekunle Sobaloju, SAN, said the court could not proceed on the arraignment because the defendants had not been served with their complaints.

However, the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Abiodun Aikomo, explained that the arraignment of the defendants was stalled because they could not confirm whether their sureties would still support them in the new case.

Oyo State government had filed a fresh 18 counts charge on the defendants bordering on conspiracy to commit a felony, murder, manslaughter, conspiracy to commit an offence and criminal negligence at the Oyo State High Court on January 10th, 2025.
