Ogun State government has shut down a steel industry in Ogijo, Sagamu Local Government and a plastics industry along Lagos – Ibadan Expressway following separate industrial accidents that resulted in loss of one life.
The action was prompted by two separate incidents involving an industrial explosion at a steel company, which left several victims injured, and an electrocution at the plastics company.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency, OGEPA, Alhaji Farook Akintunde said the government shut down the companies in order to investigate the remote and immediate causes of the unfortunate incidents and proffer solutions to avert future occurrence.
Alhaji Akintunde emphasized that the two companies would remain closed until investigations are completed and new safety measures are implemented, urging other companies in the state, to prioritize the safety and well-being of their workers.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State government had also shut down two additional companies along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, over the companies’ obstruction of state officials who were attempting to investigate and address the exposure of workers to hazardous chemicals.
