The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspects, Ridwan Bello, and Fatai Adeleke, for their involvement in exhuming and selling human parts for ritual purposes.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, detectives from the Iyaganku Divisional Police Headquarters conducted a search at Bello’s residence in Olomi Academy area of Ibadan , where they found a female human torso, severed limbs, and dried bones stored in bags and a paint bucket.
Bello confessed to exhuming the corpse from a cemetery in Awa-Ijebu, Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State, and selling the body parts to ritualists.
His confession, according to the release led to the arrest of Adeleke, a septuagenarian, who admitted to buying human parts from Bello for ritual purposes.
The case has been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
The statement urges cemetery managers to be more vigilant, while transporters should scrutinize their passengers’ loads to prevent such recurrence.
