The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has warned officers against unlawful and prolonged detentions of suspects
In a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, the IGP emphasizes the importance of adhering to legally stipulated detention periods, as enshrined in the nation’s constitution.
The release says any officer found violating the directive will face serious sanctions.
The release adds that the Inspector General of Police further admonishes officers to uphold the highest standards of conduct in their interactions with the public.
The statement, titled “Human Rights: IGP Warns Personnel against Incessant, Unlawful Detentions,” cautioned against detentions beyond the legally stipulated period.
