The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has named its National Secretariat Complex to Nigeria Union of Local Authority Staff, NULAS, which was its name of origin.
At the inauguration of the secretariat at Idi Orogbo, New Adeoyo Road, Ring Road, Ibadan, NULGE National President General, Mr. Akeem Ambali explained that the gesture was aimed at honouring the legacy of the Union’s founding fathers and educating the younger generation about its rich history.
Mr Ambali, is also the national treasurer of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), stressed that celebrating and keeping the struggles and legacies of NULGE’s heroes was crucial to grassroots’ development.
“NULGE nationwide started in Ibadan, and it was then called Nigeria Local Authority Staff, NULAS. Commissioning this edifice today would contribute to history and educate the younger generation of the struggles and victories of the heroes past, Today would not be forgotten in the history of the union in Oyo state even in the country as a whole”
While highlighting the significance of the edifice, former President of NULGE and NLC in Oyo state, Dr. Bashir Olanrewaju, said NULAS House would serve as a museum showcasing local government history in Nigeria and a guest house for past and current leaders of the union.
“The secretariat shall serve as a museum where present and past history shall be kept. If today, history is not kept the future is at risk and the mistake of the past is inevitable. We appreciate the executive of NULGE in Oyo state for this initiative.”

President of NULGE in Oyo State, Mr Adeogun Abayomi commended the national body of the union and acknowledged the edifice’s connection to the former Nigeria Union of Local Authority Staff (NULAS), which gave birth to the present NULGE.
“We appreciate the present administration led by president Bola Tinubu for implementation of local government autonomy. It is a way of making the dividend of democracy functional at the grassroots as it is written in 1999 constitution of Nigeria.

“As the president of NULGE in Oyo state, I promised that the 16 rooms secretariat would be opened to all members and will also serve as source of income for the union.
