A large number of Muslim faithful who gathered this morning at the Lantoro Praying Ground in Abeokuta, were disappointed and confused as the traditional two rakat Eid prayers failed to hold.
The Eid prayers were observed in other locations, including the Albarka Mosque and Abadiya, while the Lantoro praying ground, usually the major venue for Eid celebrations, remained quiet.
Many of the faithful, who expressed disappointment over the situation, said the lack of communication about a possible shift in the date of the Eid celebrations at the main praying ground was worrisome.
One of the prominent worshippers, Alhaji Ola Animashaun expressed surprise and disappointment at the non-observance of the two rakat prayers at the Lantoro praying ground.
He said they were left to keep wondering about the cause of the disruption and the lack of communication from the leaders.
The Sultanate of Sokoto and Saudi authorities had earlier proclaimed the sighting of the moon, signaling the start of the Eid celebrations.
