Medical Outreach: Oyo Benefits from Free Healthcare

By Oluseyi Olarinde

Regular medical checks and early presentation of ailments to the hospitals are very important to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

This was the submission of the Oyo state Commissioner for health, Dr Oluwaserimi Ajetomobi, at a free medical outreach programme organized by the wife of the state governor, Mrs Tamunominini Makinde, the state’s ministry of health, the Nigerian physicians in America and a pharmaceutical company.

Dr Ajetomobi, who frowned at the way people handle their health, which included ignorance of their blood pressure and sugar level, excessive drug abuse, noted that the programme was put up to address these issues and let people know the proper way of monitoring their health efficiently.

In a remark, the President, Nigerian Physicians in America, Dr Cliff Eke, said Oyo State was selected as part of the states to enjoy the free health care during the medical outreach.

Dr Eke, who commended the state’s government efforts at renovating close to 300 primary health care centers in the state, counseled the beneficiaries to maintain a qualitative healthy life.

While flagging off the free medical outreach programme, the wife of Oyo state governor, Mrs Tamunominini Makinde, lamented the poor access to qualitative healthcare, which, according to her, was a great hindrance to having a healthy society.

Mrs Makinde had earlier inspected the facilities at the primary health care center at Alafara Oje Market.

Two beneficiaries of the programme, Mrs Medinat Uzain and Mrs Taiwo Olatunji, expressed great joy at the gesture and thanked the beneficiaries.

Our Correspondent reports that Medical checks were carried out on people while free drugs were also administered to them.
