Governor Orders Investigation into Alleged Tax Impositions by Former Chairmen

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has instructed the Commissioner of Police in the state to investigate reports of unauthorized tax collections and alleged forgery of local government documents by some former council chairmen whose tenures were terminated by a court order.

The governor’s directive follows complaints that certain ex-council officials, particularly in Boripe Local Government, have continued to operate revenue task forces, issuing documents purportedly for internally generated revenue, IGR.

These alleged activities include distributing what have been described as falsified identification letters and tax receipts to market operators.

In a statement, Governor Adeleke expressed concern over the potential legal and security implications of such actions, urging the police to question the individuals involved.

He also directed his Special Adviser on Security, Mr Samuel Ojo, to collaborate with law enforcement agencies to ensure compliance with the order.

The development comes amid an ongoing legal dispute over the dissolution of the local government chairmen, with the All Progressives Congress, APC, having filed an appeal against their removal.

The governor emphasized the need to uphold the rule of law and prevent actions that could disrupt public order.

No official response has yet been issued by the affected former chairmen or the APC regarding these allegations.
