Nigerians on Friday, joined their counterparts the world over in remembrance of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, known as Good Friday.
As a way to mark the day, special church services were held in various churches in Ibadan, Oyo state.
Some of the church services recaptured the trials and crucifixion of Jesus Christ through drama presentations, while other Christians observed the day in sobriety, praying and fasting
At Saint Mary’s Catholic Church Oke Padre, Ibadan, events such as the appearance of Jesus Christ before Pontius Pilate, mob pronouncement of Jesus crucifixion, carrying of the cross to Golgotha and symbolic crucifixion were reincarnated by selected youths of the church.
The priest at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church Oke padre, Reverend Father Azeez Gabriel said the death of Jesus Christ on the cross was a demonstration of His Love for mankind.
Reverend Father Gabriel called on political leaders to love their followers and discharge their political responsibilities as expected by the electorate.
“It was out of love that Jesus Christ suffered and died for us. We are not suppose to suffer again. Our leaders should show love by wiping the tears of citizens”.
Also speaking, the Presbyter, The First African Church Mission, Ekotedo, Dugbe, Ibadan, The Venerable Paul Adebamkole, said political leaders and Nigerians must imbibe the lesson of sacrifice by helping others as done by Jesus Christ.
The story was not different at the Gospel Faith Mission International, Ibadan, where the occasion was used to bring children together for prayers and teachings on the sufferings of Jesus Christ.
