Boundary Dispute: Oyo, Osun Call for Peace

By Iyabo Adebisi

Oyo state government has called on the National Boundary Commission to promptly resolve the age long boundary dispute between Oyo and Osun States.

The Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Chief Bayo Lawal made the call at a special mediation meeting, co-chaired by the Deputy Governor of Osun State, Prince Kola Adewusi held at the state secretariat, Ibadan, on the boundary dispute between the two states.

Chief Lawal warned that if issues of boundary dispute continue to linger between the two states, the National Boundary Commission (NBC) should be held accountable.

He explained that both states had submitted memoranda to the boundary commission for some years now without any verdict, noting that the two states have resolved to maintain peace in the boundary community of Ogburo and cautioned against any inflammatory statement that could stir up violence.

On his part, the Deputy Governor of Osun state, Prince Kola Adewusi expressed confidence that all grey areas with regards to the boundary dispute would be resolved in the best interest of all and the brotherly relationship between the two states.

Prince Adewusi also called on security operatives to arrest anyone who continues to fan the ember of discord between the two states, irrespective of status and ensure fairness in their security obligation.

The delegation later proceeded on an assessment tour of Ogburo and Papa communities
