The Catholic Archdiocese of Ibadan, has called on the newly elected Pope Leo the fourteenth to bring renewed vision to the global church and address the challenges confronting it.
The Director of Communication, Catholic Archdiocese of Ibadan,The Reverend Father Anthony Ogunyale, made the call while speaking with Radio Nigeria in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital.
The Reverend Father Ogunyale noted that the church needed to be strengthened in view of the emerging challenges, citing the decline in morals, social justice, and unity among diverse cultures.
The cleric said christian faithful look forward to the new Pope visiting Africa .
The Reverend Father Ogunyale noted that the increasing number of cardinals selected to choose the Pope had drawn global attention to African continent.
He expressed optimism that the emergence of an African Pope was possible in the nearest future.
Reverend Father Ogunyale said his election marks a historical moment in the history of the church as all Catholic churches would now include Pope Leo in their mass
Also reacting on the emergence of the new pope, the Vicar for Education, Catholic Archdiocese of Ibadan, The Reverend Father Julius Akinyode urged Christian leaders in the country to emulate the Godly virtues of Pope Leo.
Similarly, Reactions have continue to trail the emergence of Pope Robert Prevost as the two hundred and sixty-seventh Supreme Pontiff of the Catholic Church.
Pope Leo the fourteenth, the first American pontiff, was elected less than twenty four hours by the conclave in Vatican.
Speaking on his emergence, a Catholic Parishioner, Mr Olu Akinsomisoye described the election process a good development which reflected the tradition of the church.
Another Parishioner, Mr Oluwole Ogunleye, expressed optimism that his reign would be successful, while urging him to tackle issues militating against the church.
Also speaking, A Parish Priest at Saint Andrews Catholic Church, Oke Bola, Ibadan, Reverend Father Paul Asawale who expressed happiness, admonished the new shepherd to chart a course for the emancipation of the body of Christ
