Flood Alert : Oresanya Advises Residents to Vacate Prone Areas

Residents of communities along certain rivers and coastlines in Ogun state have been advised to relocate to safer areas between late September and early October.

The Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Ola Oresanya who gave the advice in a statement in Abeokuta on the 2025 Ogun State Midterm Flood Alert said the precautionary step became necessary due to expected high rainfall and water overflow from rivers, including the Ogun River, and the release of water from Oyan Dam.

Dr Oresanya listed the affected Communities to include Isheri, Warewa, Akute, Parts of Abeokuta, Ayetoro, Itele, Iju, Makun, Oni, Iwopin, Igele, Ifaara in Ogun Waterside, Ebute-Imobi in Ijebu East and Tongeji Island and Agosasa in Ipokia Local Government area of the State.

 He announced that the state government had taken steps to mitigate the impact of the floods, including, setting up emergency camps for evacuees, and working closely with the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority to manage water release from Oyan Dam

Advising residents to avoid using boreholes and well water during this period to avoid potential contamination, Dr Oresanya reaffirmed the commitment of the State government to make the state flood-free and would continue to take necessary steps to mitigate the impact of flooding.
