The Ogun state government has issued a caution against anyone found to be disrupting the activities of farmers in the state.
The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Bolu Owootomo stated this while speaking with Radio Nigeria in Abeokuta.
Mr Owootomo noted that the government had invested greatly in agricultural projects and infrastructure designed to boost food security, create jobs, and enhance the livelihoods of farmers.
He reaffirmed government’s commitment to protecting the interests of farmers and promoting agricultural development expected to boost food productivity and contribute to the state’s economic growth, adding that the ministry had the backing of the legislative arm of government to handle any individual or group of people encroaching on government-owned agricultural land by law.
The Commissioner urged farmers to report any cases of land grabbing or other elements, hindering their activities, and promised to take swift action.
Two farmers, Mr Joseph Adenekan and Mrs Ademolu Adedayo, who narrated their ordeal in the hands of the land grabbers, thanked the state government for the bold step, adding that the decision would go a long way to complement the government’s efforts to boost food production in the state.
They stressed the need for government to set a monitoring team that would ensure speedy implementation of the decision.
