Prince Oyelade, described the veterans as first class citizens with distinct knowledge in the industry hence the need to get engage in creative writing on their experiences for public use.
Oyo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade has advised veteran journalists in the state to transform their experience to creative economic venture so as to erase their status as second class fiddle in the profession.
Prince Oyelade stated this during veteran and family day marking part of the 2025 Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, activities held at the Union’s secretariat, Iyaganku, Ibadan.

In an address of welcome, the Chairman, NUJ Oyo State Council, Chief Ademola Babalola appreciated the veteran journalists for their selfless service while in active service.
He urged aspirants in the forthcoming union’s election in the state to be peaceful in their conduct, uphold unity and desist from hate speech.
In a remark, the chairman of veteran journalists in Oyo State, Mr Banji Ogundele called on current media professionals to make punctuality their watch word while discharging their duties.
He encouraged the retired media professionals to engage themselves in a meaningful venture to keep them active.

In an interactive session Tagged “Bridging the gap between the Young and the Old”, A lecturer at Department of Mass Communication, Lead City University Ibadan, Dr Bayonle Busari said to curb second hand value in the profession, it is expedient for journalists to diversify and invest in their careers.
Dr Busari charged private media owners and government to prioritise welfare of their staff to enable them have meaningful life before and after retirement. .
The event featured presentation of Awards to Twelve Members including the Immediate past Chairman of NUJ OYO State Council who is also the Deputy Director, News and Current Affairs Department, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN Ibadan Zonal Station, Mr Adewumi Faniran, former NUJ Secretary and Retired Deputy Director News and Current Affairs, FRCN ibadan, Mr Samson Abiodun for their immense contributions to the growth and progress of the state council
Responding, Mr Faniran and Mr Abiodun appreciated the executives of the union in the state led by Chief Ademola Babalola for the awards.
The week continues today with a special jumat service at Ring Road to be followed with Dinner at the NUJ Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan.
