The Director for Secondary Health Care and Training at the Oyo State Ministry of Health, Dr. Johnson Babalola, has stressed the critical need for regular health check-ups to prevent sudden illnesses.
Dr. Babalola gave the advice during a health talk marking the 2025 Engineering Week, organized by the Department of Engineering Services at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Ibadan Zonal Station.
The event, held at Studio One, Broadcasting House in Dugbe, Ibadan, also incorporated an in-house training on communication skills, teamwork, and leadership.

The Director described the talk as pivotal for enlightening people on their health, noting that inadequate knowledge about one’s body, particularly high blood pressure, could lead to stroke or death, often without clear prior symptoms.
Dr. Babalola, who pointed out that hypertension and diabetes could be genetically influenced, advised staff to avoid excessive salt and seasoning intake.
He further recommended maintaining a balanced diet, engaging in regular exercise, and ensuring adequate sleep.
During the in-house training, a retired Director of the National Broadcasting Academy, FRCN, Lagos, Dr. Abiola Ajibola, stated that broadcasting work is a cycle that requires effective teamwork, leadership, and good communication skills.
Dr. Ajibola charged Heads of Department to lead effectively and collaborate to achieve seamless goals.
In a remark, the Zonal Director of FRCN, Ibadan Zonal Station, Mr. Dominic Mokikan, noted that the event was designed to allow engineers to unwind from their demanding schedules.
Mr. Mokikan added that the program would provide the professionals with insights into current trends and prepare them for future challenges.
Earlier in a welcome address, the Deputy Director of the Department of Engineering Services, FRCN, Ibadan Zonal Station, Mrs. Ibiyemi Obadina, said the health talk would enable engineering professionals to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
She noted that engineers often prioritize work over personal well-being, which negatively affects both service quality and staff health.
The event, which featured a question-and-answer session, was attended by several management staff, including the Head of the Department of News and Current Affairs, Mr. Adewunmi Faniran and Head of the Information and Communication Technology Department, Alhaja Wosilat Salami.
