Oyo NUJ Election: Members Await Annoucement of Results

By Rotimi Famakin/Taiwo Akinola

Three hundred and sixty journalists under the auspices of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Oyo State Council, have gone to the polls to elect new leaders.

Nine candidates are vying for four positions in the election, which commenced at exactly nine o’clock in the morning, at the NUJ Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan.

The positions being contested are Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer, while other positions, including Auditor, Assistant Secretary, Financial Secretary and Public Relations Officer, still remain vacant, due to the disqualification of candidates who did not meet the required criteria.

The chairman of the Oyo NUJ electoral committee, Mr Adewale Fasasi, described the exercise as free and fair.

Apart from eleven chapels in the state that participated in the election, our correspondent reports that men of the Nigeria Police and the DSS were on patrol to maintain law and order.
