Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state says he will recommend to the people of the state an individual capable of continuing with the good work of his administration after 2027.
He made this known during the unveiling of Oyo@50 logo and the 50-day countdown ceremony, held at the Governor’s office premises Agodi, Ibadan.
Governor Makinde who noted that people of the state would decide on his recommendation believed that people would surely accept his recommendation if they truly wanted continuity for the growth and development of the state.
He maintained that the state is blessed with young, vibrant, agile, competent and capable people who can move the state forward.
Governor Makinde said his administration was doing its best in infrastructure development for the state pointing out that he didn’t mind taking criticism for the incoming administration for the positive transformation of the state in future
Governor Makinde announced that the 32 kilometers first segment of the Ibadan Circular Road would be inaugurated during the Oyo@50th celebrations in February, 2026
He further stated that the 50th anniversary of the state is worth celebrating, and urged the people of the state to prepare for it.
In their separate goodwill messages, the former Minister for Trade, Investment and Industry, Chief Mrs Onikepo Akande OON; the Olu of Igboora, Oba Jimoh Olajide Titiloye, and Chief Bayo Oyero described Governor Makinde as a reformed minded leader who has consistently demonstrate fairness to everyone in the state irrespective of their beliefs, religion, ethnics or political affiliation.
They affirmed that, Oyo state has witnessed laudable landmark projects that are instrumental to development and growth of the state, prayed for a successor that would imbibe continuity and follow the agenda of development of Seyi Makinde led administration in the state.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Committee, Oyo state at fifty, Saheed Akinade, the purpose is to celebrate the past, showcase the present achievements, recognize those who contributed to the growth of the state and also, articulate the bold vision for the next fifty years.
He assured the people of the state of an inclusive, reflective of cultural exhibition, intellectual engagement, community-based activities and youth-focused programmes that would highlight unity in diversity, shared vision, collective aspirations and progress in the last fifty years.
Highlights of the event were the unveiling of the anniversary logo by the governor alongside some traditional rulers, including Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasheed Ladoja.
