Customs Launches Weekly Fitness Programme in Ogun

By Oluwatoyin Adegoke

The Acting Customs Area Controller, Ogun One Area Command, Mr Olukayode Afeni, has introduced a mandatory weekly fitness exercise for officers and men of the command to promote wellness and improve service efficiency.

Mr Afeni announced the initiative while addressing stakeholders at its launch, noting that the demanding nature of Customs duties, including long hours and field operations, required officers to deliberately prioritise their health.

He said the fitness programme aligned with the resolve of the Comptroller-General of Customs to build a physically and mentally fit workforce capable of meeting the operational demands of the service.

The Acting Area Controller emphasised that only healthy officers could perform optimally in the discharge of their duties, adding that the weekly exercise would hold every Thursday to enhance teamwork, discipline, and operational readiness.

Mr Afeni said the command planned to sustain the initiative and entrench fitness as part of its culture, while assuring personnel that staff welfare would remain a top priority.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Chado Zakari, said activities at the maiden exercise session included jogging, aerobics, football, and volleyball, aimed at improving physical health, reducing stress, fostering camaraderie, and boosting morale among officers.
