Oyo Police Command Dismisses Misconduct Claims

By Abisola Oluremi

The Oyo State Police Command has said officers involved in an operation at The Oke-Ogun Polytechnic acted professionally and within established guidelines, following a video on X alleging misconduct.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr Olayinka Ayanlade, said an internal review identified the officers in the footage and confirmed compliance with operational procedures.

He linked the police action to a January 7, 2026 cult clash on campus in which one student was shot dead.

He said operatives arrested another suspect who provided intelligence that led police, in collaboration with the institution’s management, to search certain hostels.

The command stated that the school had earlier petitioned for police intervention to forestall further violence.

It added that students cooperated during the hostel visit and that officers did not damage any property.

Police said they arrested three suspects and charged them to court, while releasing others after screening.

Authorities also dismissed claims that officers damaged a hostel ceiling, stating that available video evidence showed a student caused the damage.

The command warned against the spread of misinformation and reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism and the protection of lives and property.
