Police Apprehend Customs Officers over Fatal Shooting

The Osun state police command has arrested two Officers of the Nigeria Customs in Osogbo, the state capital following the death of a yet to be identified man, who was allegedly shot Sunday evening by the officers at Dada estate area. 

‎The suspects, identified as Kolawole Suuti and Danjuma Samuel, were reportedly chasing drivers of suspected Tokunbo (foreign-used) vehicles when the incident occurred.

The Command’s spokesman, Mr Abiodun Ojelabi, who confirmed the arrest, said police operatives swiftly responded and apprehended the two officers when the matter was reported, 

Mr Ojelabi explained that the driver of one of the vehicles, an ash colour Toyota Corolla, being chased by the Customs operatives, was confirmed dead by a medical doctor at the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, while his corpse has been deposited at the morgue.

He said the matter has been reported to the Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, Mr Ibrahim Gotan, who has ordered a thorough investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.

While assuring members of the public that anyone found culpable will be made to face the full wrath of the law, Mr Ojelabi advised them to remain calm and continue to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that can aid in the on-going investigations.

Items recovered from the scene of incident by the police include a Beretta pistol with breech number 125024, 11 rounds of 9mm live ammunition, an expanded shell of 9mm, a white Toyota Corolla with registration number AAA 400 GQ (Lagos), and an ash Toyota Corolla with registration number GFQ 0982 (Texas).
