Lagos Task-force Arrests Three Over Roadside Harassment

The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce has arrested three suspected hoodlums accused of preying on owners of broken-down vehicles, as part of ongoing efforts to curb the menace popularly known as “omotaku.”

The Tokunbo Wahab disclosed this in a post on his official X account on Friday. He explained that the suspects were apprehended on Thursday at two separate locations in the state.

According to him, operatives of the taskforce arrested the suspects at Palmgrove Bus Stop along Ikorodu Road and in the Oniru area on Lagos Island, where they were allegedly attacking their victims.

Wahab stated that three suspects were arrested at the two locations for forcibly attacking motorists and other road users, adding that they would be charged to court.

The latest arrests followed a similar operation carried out earlier in the week. During that operation, task-force operatives intervened at Marwa Bus Stop in the Lekki area, where a truck driver whose vehicle had developed a fault was reportedly confronted and threatened by individuals demanding his phone and money.

The operatives also responded to another incident at Palm-grove along Ikorodu Road, where suspected touts allegedly attempted to harass road users.

Following the earlier arrests, Wahab reassured residents that the state government remained committed to eliminating all forms of harassment and intimidation on Lagos roads.

He said enforcement operations would continue across identified hot-spots to maintain order and security, while ensuring the protection of motorists and other road users across the state.
