The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has identified collaboration, innovation and political as channels to overcome agricultural challenges and unlock the numerous potential in the sector.
Senator Akpabio who was represented by the Senate Deputy Majority Leader, Senator Oyetola Ashiru, stated this while declaring open the Maiden National Legislative Summit And Expo, organised by the Senate Committee on Agricultural Colleges And Institutions, held at the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture, IITA, Moniya, Ibadan.
The Senate President said collaboration with key stakeholders in the sector and development of innovations as obtained in much developed nations, was the way forward, also noted that the Nigerian Legislature and Executive, would remain committed to policies that would promote colleges of agriculture and institutions, in order to achieve more in the area of food security in Nigeria.
He challenged Nigerian youths to brace up for opportunities and venture into agriculture for wealth creation.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman, Senate Committee On Agricultural Colleges And Institutions, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, said that the summit was timely, noting that Nigerian colleges of agriculture and institutions, needed to be strengthened to produce the skilled manpower, research innovations and solutions in achieving food security in the country.
