The Nigeria Police Force, Oyo State Command has confirmed that two members of staff of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria, CRIN, Idi Ayunre, Ibadan, were abducted by armed men who invaded the institute’s premises.
According to a statement signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the incident was reported by the institute’s Chief Security Officer, prompting an immediate response from officers at the divisional headquarters.
Preliminary findings revealed that about six armed men carried out the attack before taking the victims to an unknown destination.
“During the search, officers intercepted two suspects identified as Shehu and Abubakar. The suspects reportedly volunteered to lead operatives to their hideout, but the team came under gunfire from other members of the gang. The Police repelled the attack and successfully extracted the suspects, who are now in custody for further investigation.”
Meanwhile, the command has dismissed as false the reports circulating on social media alleging another mass abduction in Abanla and other parts of Ibadan.
The Police warned against the spread of unverified information capable of causing panic, urging residents to remain calm and provide credible information through official emergency lines.
