OSHA Passes Local Government Accountability Bill

By Mojisola Oladele

The Osun State House of Assembly has passed the Osun State Local Government Amendment No. 2 Bill 2026 into law after extensive deliberations.

Majority Leader Mr Kofoworola Adewunmi moved the motion for the bill’s passage, while Ejigbo State Constituency lawmaker Mr Olujimi Asagade seconded it during plenary at the Assembly Complex in Osogbo.

Earlier, Chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts, Mr Bamidele Lawal, presented the committee’s report on the bill, outlining corrections and recommendations adopted by the House.

Mr Lawal commended the OSHA Speaker, Prince Adewale Egbedun and fellow lawmakers for their contributions to the bill’s passage.

Presiding over the plenary, Prince Egbedun said the House would produce a clean copy of the bill and transmit it to Governor Ademola Adeleke for assent.

The new law seeks to strengthen financial transparency and accountability in local government administration.

It establishes clearer guidelines for opening, managing and operating local government accounts, enhances oversight and due process, improves fiscal management, and enables effective revenue tracking across the state’s 30 local government areas.
