The Federal Government has initiated plans to revive the operations of goldsmiths and boost the capacity of artisans operating in the mining sector.

Minister of Mining and Steel Development, Architect Olamilekan Adegbite made this known in Abeokuta when he featured on a live interview Programme on Radio Nigeria Paramount FM Abeokuta.

The minister, who explained that the goldsmiths would be trained and empowered to upgrade their techniques, expressed optimism that the measure would prevent the ancient profession from going into extinction and boost government’s efforts at wealth creation and employment generation.

Architect Adegbite pointed out that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration was giving priority to the revamping of Ajaokuta Steels Company to ease the challenges of Nigerians in accessing quality and affordable products.

He encouraged Nigerians to form cooperative groups to enable them to take advantage of government’s support and incentives towards boosting investments in the mining sector.

The minister implored Nigerians to regard the prevailing economic challenges as temporary issues that would precede sustainable growth and stability, urging them to have hope in the government’s efforts to protect the interest of all citizens irrespective of their sociopolitical status.
