The new naira notes remain Nigeria’s legal tender that must be universally accepted and treasured in the bid to strengthen the economy.

Ogun State Director of the National Orientation Agency, NOA, Mr Kolawole Obadina stated this when he led the agency’s team on sensitisation visits to various markets in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The NOA team armed with the posters bearing the pictures of redesigned 1000, 500 and 200 naira notes visited major markets and other places largely populated by traders, including the Itoku Kampala Market and Sapon business area as well as Post Office, Kuto and Omida markets.

Addressing the traders, Mr Obadina stressed that there is a need for market men and women to accept the new naira notes as credible means of exchange and protect the nation’s currency from all forms of abuse.

Responding, some of the traders, Mr Ifeoluwa Fagbemi and Mrs Omonike Akinjobi acknowledged that contrary to the initial rumours, handling the new notes had convinced them that they were carefully designed as they were beautiful to behold.

The traders expressed concern that the new money was not yet enough in circulation and appealed to the Central Bank of Nigeria to extend the deadline for the mop-up of the old naira notes.
