Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, declared that he had fulfilled all agreements he entered into with the political parties that aided his election in 2019.

The governor said that a lot of those who accused him of breaching the agreement reached with the parties who went into a coalition with him in 2019 did not have their facts.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, indicated that Makinde while addressing a gathering of family, and political associates of former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief Micheal Adeniyi Koleosho, who celebrated his 85th birthday, at his residence in Bolajoko Estate, General Gas Area, Akobo, Ibadan, said that he had fulfilled all agreements he entered into leading to the 2019 election.

He said that a lot of people who wanted to make the 2019 coalition agreement an issue in the buildup to the 2023 election had no knowledge of the issues, adding that in the end, the will of God triumphed.

The governor described the former SSG, as one of the best politicians that the state had ever produced.

The statement further quoted the governor as saying that Chief Koleosho is one of his role models and that he had been following in his footsteps in politics.

Governor Makinde, who hailed the octogenarian’s support for his administration since he became governor in 2019, noted that Koleosho was one of the leaders who facilitated a coalition of political parties that supported him and that he was glad that he has fulfilled his promises to all the parties.

The governor also declared at the occasion that the resuscitation of the Technical College, Saki was one of his programmes under Omituntun 2.0, as according to him, the institution would promote vocational education.

The governor equally presented the gift of a brand new Toyota Landcruiser Jeep to the celebrant, praying to God to grant him more years and good health.

In his remarks, Chief Koleosho gave glory and adoration to God for attaining the age of 85, even as he called for peaceful co-existence among politicians in the state.

He charged politicians in the state to shun politics of bitterness and think of what they can do for the state.

While commending the leadership qualities of Governor Makinde, the octogenarian affirmed his unalloyed support for the state governor.

Earlier in his sermon, Pastor Dr. Oluseyi Afolabi, who read Psalm 103:1-5, admonished the celebrant to continue serving God and to avoid errors of the last minutes as he grows older.

A high court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State has remanded a 20-year old artisanal gold miner, Ibrahim Kazeem in Ilesa correctional centre for allegedly killing a police inspector, Adeoye Banjo.

The suspect was arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy to commit a felony and wit murder.

He purportedly killed inspector Banjo who was one of the police orderly guarding some Chinese miners in the state in 2019.

Police prosecutor, inspector Olufemi Olanibi told the court that Kazeem and others now at large, on November 25, 2019, in Osogbo, conspired to commit a felony to wit murder inspector Banjo.

Inspector Olanibi noted that during investigations, a sim card belonging to the deceased was found in the suspect’s room when the police carried out a search on his apartment.

The magistrate, M.A Olatunji granted the prayer of the defence counsel, Mr S.O Abiona,  requesting for a copy of the case file as forwarded to the department of public prosecution.

He however ordered the suspect should be remanded in Ilesa correctional facility pending the advice of the Department of Public Prosecution.

Security

In a bid to restore lasting peace to troubled areas, Oyo State government has come up with a security strategy including deployment of additional Operatives of the Amotekun Corps to the affected zone.

Governor Seyi Makinde on his official Facebook page stated that government has resolved to redeploy 200 members of the Oyo State Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed “Amotekun” to kidnapping/banditry hotspots in the state, especially in the Ibarapa and Oke-Ogun zones. 

According to Governor Makinde, the operatives would launch missions to rid the forests of criminals and present daily reports of the activities him in the short run and periodic reports in the long run.

He said government would continue dialogue with communities pointing out that town hall meetings would be held within few weeks to bring together residents and security agencies to talk about any issues of immediate concern and resolve them through dialogue and more effective community policing.

The governor equally said his government would continue to enforce the Oyo State Open Rearing and Grazing Regulation Law, 2019. 

He added that his administration would proceed with the documentation of foreigners, especially those who are working in mines at ensuring that only foreigners who have legitimate interests in Oyo State remained within the territory.

Governor Makinde thanked residents of Oyo State who complied with the directive to remain peaceful, and call on all residents to stay vigilant and always contact the security agencies empowered by law to deal with security issues.

Our administration will continue to support the police and other federal security agencies posted to the state in the discharge of their duties”.  

“We are aware that some farmers have been killed and/or lost their livelihoods to criminal trespass and damage by pastoralists. And so, the State Executive Council is considering the possibility of compensation payments to families of victims or victims of this criminality who can prove their claims”.

“We have started the process of prosecuting all suspects arrested for criminal activities in Ibarapa and the Oke-Ogun zones of the state in connection with the ongoing tensions in the area”.
