Operatives of Ogun State Police Command have arrested three members of the notorious Aiye cult group allegedly terrorizing different parts of Abeokuta. 

The suspects, Jonathan Oshinalu, Kola Bolugbe, and Jimoh Aliu were arrested after the SWAT operatives received an intelligent report that the suspects alongside their cult leader simply known as “Ben” were holding a meeting at Ogun Radio, Mile 2 Area of Lafenwa Abeokuta, with the intention of launching another attack in some parts of the metropolis. 

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed the arrest of the suspects in a statement in Abeokuta.

Mr Oyeyemi explained that Ben had escaped with bullet wounds after his deadly group had engaged the SWAT team in a gun battle while three among them were apprehended. 

The command’s spokesman said the hoodlums during the attack destroyed the patrol vehicle of Lafenwa Division before they were subdued by the superior firepower of the police.

He noted that an unregistered Lexus 330 car the suspects used for their operations was also recovered by the SWAT team. 

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Lanre Bankole, had directed a massive manhunt for the escaped gang leader and other members of his group. 

Mr Bankole also ordered a discreet investigation into the activities of the arrested hoodlums with the view of arraigning them in court as soon as possible.

Operatives of Nigeria Police, Ogun State Command, have arrested two members of the dreaded Aiye cult at Elega-Iberekodo axis of Abeokuta.

The suspects, Habeeb Muideen and one Ibrahim were arrested following a distress call received by SWAT operatives that the group were engaging in a supremacy battle with another rival cult group at Elega/Iberekodo axis of Abeokuta metropolis.

The SWAT commander, Mr Kalejaye Olanrewaju, who led his men to the scene, arrested the cult members who took to their heels when they sighted policemen.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi said in a statement in Abeokuta that the two suspects were currently undergoing interrogation at SWAT office to determine their roles in the clash which left one Eiye member dead.

Mr Oyeyemi listed items recovered from the arrested suspects to include battle axes and assorted charms.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Lanre Bankole, has ordered a comprehensive manhunt for the fleeing members of the groups.
