The Police Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has urged Nigerians to report anyone seen with live ammunition to curb arms proliferation in Nigeria.

This was contained in a statement shared on Sunday on his official X account.

Sharing a picture of live ammunition, Adejobi said, “These are live ammunition, called “èpà” or “groundnuts” in the street.

“They are deadly, not to be seen with anyone except security agents. Statutory security agents, no other ones.

“If you see them with any friend or civilian, please expose him or her. We need to collectively curb the proliferation of arms and ammunition in Nigeria.”

Recall that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade on Thursday paraded 34 suspects of crimes including armed robbery, stealing, cultism and unlawful possession of firearms one month into office.

In what Fayoade called a mark of his achievements since taking office, the police commissioner listed no fewer than 14 cases cracked and a recovery of a total of 16 firearms including a toy pistol, 72 live cartridges, 75 live ammunition, one expended cartridge and one pistol magazine.

The police also recovered six axes, four daggers, one digger, five cutlasses, two vehicles, one POS Machine, fake registration plates and various charms.

The Oyo State Police Command has raided the apartment of the sacked Chairman of Park Management System, Mukaila Lamidi, popularly known as Auxiliary.

An online news platform Tuesday morning reports that the police stormed his Ibadan residence recovering weapons and ammunition.

It was reported that though Auxiliary escaped, his loyalists were however arrested by the police.

It would be recalled that the auxiliary-led Park Management System Disciplinary Committee was dissolved barely 24 hours ago by the State Government.

The dissolution was contained in a release by the Chief of Staff to Governor Seyi Makinde, Segun Ogunwuyi.

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba psc+, NPM, fdc, who in his magnanimity and enthusiasm to restore peace and security to Zamfara, deployed Police Tactical Team from FIB/STS Force Headquarters Abuja, headed by DSP Hussaini Gimba.

The Tactical team who is working in collaboration with the operatives of Zamfara State Police Command in the ongoing Police operations across the State. We are therefore grateful to the Inspector General of Police and members of his Management Team, as well as the Executive Governor of Zamfara State Rt. Hon. Dr. Bello Muhammad MON, Matawallen Maradun Barden Kasar Hausa, Sarkin Yakin Daular Usmaniyya, who has been un tirelessly supporting Police and other Security agencies in discharging their duties effectively, that led to all the successes recorded by the Police Operatives.

 During these joint operations, arrest of notorious bandits, bandit’s collaborators/informants and other suspects was effected. While we parade some of the suspects arrested having completed their investigation, others who are undergoing discreet investigation could not be paraded now until investigation about their matter is concluded.

Following interrogations of the suspects arrested, the Police Tactical Operatives carried out tactical operations at different bandit’s enclaves in the State.

The operations led to a serious gun battle with the bandits where unspecified numbers of bandits were fatally injured with others escaped with possible gunshot wounds. Ten (10) assorted AK-47 rifles with magazines containing one hundred and forty three (143) rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the scene.

The Police Command Osun State says, it has recovered four vehicles used by the armed robbers that attacked two commercial banks in Iree, Boripe Local Government area of the state.

This is contained in a press release signed by the spokesperson of the Command, Mrs Yemisi Opalola which is the first official reaction of the police since the incident occurred on Thursday.

Mrs Opalola said the vehicles and ammunition were recovered from the robbers after a hot chase and gun duel with combined team of security, comprising the police and Amotekun.

She explained that though the hoodlums made unsuccessful attempts at invading the police armory, but one police constabulary named Dauda Jelili was killed by their bullets, while four other residents of Iree community sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment.

She added that the robbers made away with yet to be ascertained amount of money from the banks.

The Police Spokesperson informed that the combined security team were combing the bush where the suspected armed robbers ran into.
